Am I a Candidate for Tummy Tuck Surgery?

A good candidate for tummy tuck surgery is in good physical health, does not smoke, and has realistic expectations. Women who desire this surgery should be done bearing children because getting pregnant after tummy tuck surgery could compromise your results.

If you meet these requirements and are unhappy with the appearance of your abdominal area or need help correcting a stubborn post-pregnancy belly, you may be a candidate for abdominoplasty.

To determine your candidacy, schedule a consultation with EB Plastic Surgery by calling (281) 990-8487.

What Are My Options for Tummy Tuck Surgery?

There are a few different types of tummy tuck surgery. Depending on your aesthetic goals and anatomy, Dr. Bedolla can recommend the best one for you.

Standard Tummy Tuck

A standard, traditional, or full tummy tuck involves an incision made along the lower abdomen, from hip to hip, plus a small incision around the belly button. Excess skin and fat are removed, and any gaps between the rectus abdominus muscles are stitched together. This is the most common type of tummy tuck surgery.

Mini Tummy Tuck

The least invasive option is the mini tummy tuck, which is specifically for patients who have no muscle separation but minimal excess fat and skin in the lower abdomen. The incision is much shorter than with a standard tummy tuck, and there is no incision around the belly button, so this tummy tuck involves the least amount of scarring.

Extended Tummy Tuck

An extended tummy tuck extends the standard incision to the flanks, very low on the bikini line. This allows for better skin tightening and further tissue removal if there is excess skin that wraps around the hips and toward the back. This is an excellent option for patients who have undergone significant weight loss.

Circumferential Tummy Tuck

With this tummy tuck variation, the incision goes all the way around your midsection, ensuring a complete transformation. It’s not just about the abdomen—it targets the sides and back, too, tightening up your entire core area. For those who’ve shed a significant amount of weight, whether through hard work or surgery, a circumferential tummy tuck is an absolute game-changer.

What Procedures Can Be Combined With a Tummy Tuck?

If you are interested in another procedure, combining it with your tummy tuck may be a good idea. You can combine recovery times and reduce anesthesia fees and complications. You can discuss procedure combinations in detail with Dr. Bedolla, but some popular procedures to combine with a tummy tuck include the following.

Breast Procedures such as Augmentation with or without Lift

Pairing a tummy tuck with either a breast augmentation with or without a lift can work wonders in sculpting your figure for stunning curves. Because the surgical work will be located in the front of the torso, this makes for an optimal combination.

Liposuction

When liposuction is paired up with a tummy tuck, it can help you achieve a beautifully slender look all around. Most patients opt for liposuction of their flanks or back for the ultimate waistline transformation or choose other areas of the body for an enhanced silhouette overall.

Arm Lift

If you have excess skin and fat on your inner or outer thighs or on your upper arms, you may be able to address those areas while you have your tummy tuck surgery. Arm lift procedures remove excess skin and fatty tissue for a slimmer look.

What Is Tummy Tuck Recovery Like?

After your surgery, you will be placed under observation before you are cleared to be driven home. If you underwent an extended or circumferential abdominoplasty, you might need to spend the night for monitoring.

You will be wrapped in surgical dressings or bandages, and you may have drains placed under the skin to collect excess fluid. Patients typically receive a surgical compression garment to aid in healing and minimize swelling.

Most patients can return to work after 2weeks—possibly less for a desk job. It will take at least a month before you are cleared for light exercise. It’s vital to rest and avoid any vigorous activity during the first few weeks of your recovery.

Dr. Bedolla will provide you with a detailed list of post-operative instructions. Follow these carefully for optimal healing.

What Results Can I Expect From a Tummy Tuck?

The cost of a tummy tuck depends on a variety of factors, including anesthesia and facility fees, as well as your aesthetic goals. Dr. Bedolla can provide you with detailed information about the exact cost of your procedure at the time of your consultation.
