Breast Augmentation
in Houston, TX
One of the reasons why breast augmentation continually ranks among the most popular cosmetic surgery procedures is that breasts have been symbols of feminine beauty for thousands of years. Many women have an ideal image in mind for their breasts for one reason or another and wish to fulfill that vision. Some have been dissatisfied with their breasts’ appearance for a long time; for others, pregnancy or weight loss has affected the size or shape of their breasts in an undesirable way, and they yearn to revive the curves of their younger days.
Breast augmentation is a procedure that enables women to achieve their body ideals, often unlocking new levels of self-confidence. Dr. Bedolla is a talented surgeon with a sculptor’s eye and a passion for making each patient’s dream body a reality.

What Are My Breast Augmentation Options?
Breast augmentation is a highly customizable procedure. During your consultation, Dr. Bedolla will help you determine what is best for you according to your goals and anatomy.
You have many options when it comes to your breast augmentation, including implant material and shape, implant placement, and incision placement.
Implant Material
There are various types of implants. The one that is best for you depends on several factors, such as your age, anatomy, and aesthetic goals.
Saline Breast Implants
- Silicone shell
- Filled with sterile salt water
- Feel firm to touch
- In case of rupture, salt water is safely absorbed by the body
- Rupture is immediately noticeable
- FDA-approved for patients 18 and older
Silicone Breast Implants
- Silicone shell
- Filled with silicone gel
- Feel soft to the touch
- Require regular screening to assess proper function
- FDA-approved for patients 22 and older
Gummy Bear Breast Implants
- Silicone shell
- Filled with highly cohesive silicone gel
- Firmer than silicone gel implants
- Maintain their shape even if implant ruptures
- FDA-approved for patients 22 and older
Implant Shape
There are two common shapes available, each with unique features.
Round Implants
- Provide more fullness to the upper part of the breast
- Breasts look the same even if they rotate
Anatomical (Teardrop) Shaped Implants
- Mimic the natural shape of breasts (tapered at the top, fuller at the bottom)
- Rotation can cause asymmetry or a “top-heavy” appearance
Incision Placement
The location of the incision will depend on your goals, your breasts’ starting point, and your scar preferences.
Inframammary
- Incision placed below the breast, near the fold
- Most common incision
- Reduced risk of complications such as capsular contracture
Periareolar
- Incision placed around the areola
- Not for every breast type, such as women with smaller areolas
- Nearly invisible scar
Implant Placement
There are two positions in which the breast implant pocket can be placed.
Subglandular
- Placed behind the breast glands, in front of the muscle
- Faster recovery period
- Natural-looking results
- No muscle-related implant distortion (animation deformity)
- Higher risk of capsular contracture and visible rippling
Submuscular
- Placed behind the pectoral muscle
- Easier mammograms
- Less risk of visible rippling
- Great for those with thinner breast tissue
- Implant may move with muscle flexing
What Is Breast Augmentation Recovery Like?
Though it is performed under general anesthesia, breast augmentation is still an outpatient procedure. After your surgery, you will be observed in a recovery area. When you are stable, you will be discharged to go home, usually about an hour after surgery. You will need to have someone drive you to and from the facility on the day of surgery.
Your breasts will be wrapped in gauze dressings, and you may be wearing a support bra or other compression garment to help minimize swelling and support healing. Dr. Bedolla will give you specific post-operative instructions; following these carefully will ensure the best outcome.
Many patients can return to work in a week or two, depending on the physical constraints of their job. After four to six weeks of recovery, patients often return to normal activities, like driving or exercising. Always follow your surgeon’s instructions for optimal recovery and limited complications.
What Results Can I Expect From Breast Augmentation?
Your breasts will be visibly larger immediately, but your final results will take a few weeks to become visible while the swelling subsides, the skin stretches, and the breasts settle. Incision lines can take anywhere from a few months to a couple of years to fade—make sure you follow post-operative instructions to promote the healing of scars.
However, breast implants are not designed to last a lifetime. The average lifespan of breast implants is 10-15 years, though they can last for 20 years or more. The FDA recommends regular MRI screenings; at some point, you will need surgery to replace your implants. Even so, many women consider this a small price to pay for years, even decades, of renewed confidence and a revitalized body image.
How Much Does Breast Augmentation Cost in Houston?
Breast augmentation costs vary depending on implant material, location, expertise, and other factors. At your consultation, Dr. Bedolla will provide you with specifics about the cost of your procedure.
